Expert Visitors

We’ve enjoyed a special performance of ‘Mouse and Bear’ from the concerteenies. The children enjoyed joining in with the catchy songs 🎵 😊

We’ve also had a great time building dens with Chris this week. The children worked so well as a team and they created some amazing dens. Their happy faces brightened our day…

Being scientists this week

Class 4 looked at a variety of everyday materials, sorted them on the basis of their physical properties. We used scientific vocabulary to describe the properties of materials. Then, we used different materials to build our castles, made predictions and tested the castles to find out which material would be best to survive in wind and when exposed to water.

Exploring materials and their properties

We then used different materials to build castles so that we could predict and test what happens to the materials when they are exposed to wind and rain:

We labelled the properties of the materials before deciding which materials would be the best to use.

Building Bear Caves

Today we had great fun building dens that we imagined were caves for bears – just like the one in our key text We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. Our visiting expert Chris demonstrated to the children the skills they needed to use and then set them off to work in three teams. The children worked collaboratively using garden canes, tie wraps, tarpaulin and stretchy tubes to create their caves. They were so engaged, enthusiastic and really enjoyed the physical challenge of building something together… even in the pouring rain!

We are scientists!

We have been investigating materials to find out which one would be best to build a castle. In crew we worked together to build castles out of paper, fabric, plastic and wood. We then tested them against wind and water.

We wrote letters to the knights to let them know the results of our investigations so that they could build the most secure castles to keep them safe from the big, bad dragon!

Team work makes the dream work . . .

This morning we had an awesome crew session! We challenged ourselves to build the biggest tower we could – it was tricky.

Next, Mrs Parsons challenged us to work as a crew to build a line that stretched from class five all the way to Mrs Smith’s office! We had to communicate and really work hard together. Eventually we made it!

Crew Parsons really can do anything!

Celebrating Bonfire night

Class 4 had a great time making the firework pictures. We then came up with some fantastic adjectives to describe fireworks and learnt about some safety rules around fireworks.

It’s been a strange first day back . . .

I was terrified opening the door this morning! I’m usually met with lots of smiling faces but this morning this scary bunch turned up!

We had a great time doing lot’s of different spooky activities – our favourite was the mummy challenge!
