The reception children have enjoyed a wonderful treat today. They each received a hand written postcard and a delicious box of chocolate treats from our year 3 and 4 children as a thank you for all their hard work in their recent expedition ‘What happens where the sea meets the shore?’
The children were delighted and it has encouraged us to think about kind gestures that you can make that would make someones day.
We have had an amazing day. We started with a walk around the grounds at Cusworth Hall and enjoyed taking part in the history trail. We spent some time at the top of the hill seeing which Doncaster landmarks we could spot – we found Doncaster Minster, the Frenchgate, Doncaster Royal Infirmary and the Eco Power stadium too. We then skipped, hopped, rolled, ran down the great big hill – it was exhausting getting back up the hill though!!
The coach then took us across the city to the Eco Power Stadium. On the way we spotted more Doncaster landmarks we saw a mosque, Doncaster Train Station and lots of restaurants that we recognised too! When we arrived at the stadium we had lunch sat in the seats overlooking the pitch followed by a stadium tour and a PE lesson. We were very excited to meet Donny Dog too.
We had an absolutely fantastic day – it was great to see lots of the landmarks that we have found out about over the course of our expedition.
Wow – what day! We started our day having a walk around the grounds at Cusworth Hall. The children took some great notes using their note catchers to use when we get back to class. We ran and rolled down the hill too – it almost tired us out! We spent some time at the top of the hill seeing which Doncaster landmarks we could spot – we found Doncaster Minister and the Hospital too. Next was the coach trip across to the Eco Power Stadium – more Doncaster landmark spotting – we found things like the Frenchgate, a mosque, gurdwara, Doncaster Train Station and we were very excited to see XP and XP East too! When we arrived at the stadium we had lunch overlooking the pitch followed by a stadium tour and a PE lesson. We were very excited to meet a VIP too – Donny Dog ❤️
We had an absolutely fantastic day – it was great to hear the children share lots of knowledge about Doncaster that they have been learning over the course of our expedition.
In 2023, XP had over 1000 visitors from all over the world – including India, Australia, America, Israel, Norway and Spain, just to name a few! As we continue to welcome more visitors, here’s what they’ve said about our students…
Exciting plans for Green Top – watch this space!
Friends of Norton Campus Summer Fair
This week we held our second Friends of Norton Campus Association Summer Fair. We were joined by members of our local community to raise funds for our schools. There were bouncy castles, penalty shoot outs, welly wanging and face painting.
Askern Community Brass Band provided the music – and there were plenty of sweet treats and snacks to enjoy too. Children were spending their pocket money on the hit the teacher coconut shy and sponge the teacher! Not forgetting we were joined by our special VIP’s Lenny and Alan (the alpacas!) We’re already looking forward to next year.
Over the duration of this expedition the children have engaged in critical thinking about how to care for our seas, considering how we can make a difference to a big problem.
Today the children enjoyed performing the ‘sea shanty’ and ‘oh I do like to be beside the seaside’ in our celebration of learning to parents. We also got to watch a video that encapsulates the beautiful work our EYFS children have produced in this expedition. Each child got to take home a sticker for their blue bin to remind them of the importance of recycling at home.
It was great to see the children sharing their learning journey’s with parents and enjoying a well deserved ice lolly. What an amazing expedition! Well done for working so hard and showing such care and concern for our planet.
Plover School is excited to join the “Walk and Wheel Challenge” by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority. This fun initiative gets kids walking, cycling, and wheeling to school, making travel safer and healthier.
But that’s not all! The students are also tackling a big issue – problematic parking around the school. They’ve made a video asking everyone to park considerately so driveways aren’t blocked and crossing the road stays safe.
Spread the word, watch their video, and look out for their signs around the area to support their efforts.
A Message from C29
‘This week, our school hosted the Conversation Club, shedding light on the challenges faced by refugees and asylum seekers. One major expense is transportation, but we realised that having a bike could eliminate this cost and provide free, reliable transport.
In response, we are organising a bike drive, inviting the community to donate any old bikes, which will be invaluable to those in need. You can drop off your bike donations at XP Doncaster, and we will ensure they are distributed by the Conversation Club to refugees and asylum seekers, helping to ease their daily struggles. Your support and generosity are greatly appreciated.’
The children have been hooked into our final case study ‘Why is the seaside a special place to be?’ A special experience during this case study was the live Punch and Judy show performed by Mr Dan. The children were full of laughter and smiles throughout the performance.
The children have spoken about their own experiences of visiting the seaside and what we see there. Furthermore, we have uncovered similarities and differences of seasides now and in the past.
In class, we decided to get creative and make our own ice creams. The children then took it upon themselves to make an ice cream shop using the big bricks. What a great idea!
