Farewell to our furry friends… 🐥

Yesterday we said goodbye to the 13 chicks we have been looking after for the last ten days. The children have been fascinated watching them hatch and develop in such a short space of time. When they left yesterday most of the chicks had started to grow their wing feathers and some were even beginning to take flight!

The children in EYFS have helped with cleaning their brooder boxes, changing their water and replenishing their food. Best of all, they’ve loved taking it in turns to hold them. We have been so impressed with how kind and gentle the children have been when handling them.

The chicks were collected by The Happy Chick Company who will now take care of them on their farms where they will produce free range eggs for the supermarkets. We wish the chicks a very happy life roaming the countryside 🐥.

The Runaway Chapati

Silent Conversation

We’ve been predicting what might happen in our new text this morning. I was very impressed with how Class 6 made links with other stories they were familiar with to help with these predictions.

Red Nose Day Fun!

Nursery have enjoyed a day of Red Nose Day themed fun and learning. We have used our motor skills to fish for red items in the water tray, decorated Red Nose Biscuits, designed, cut and made superhero masks, made funny red rose faces on sticks and taken part in a special red nosed themed crew with the parachute practising our teamwork skills. All of the children looked amazing in their red clothes and especially designed T-shirts for the school competition, raising money for such a good cause.

Kixxing Off!

Nursery children have had an absolute ball today! Taking part in fun physical sessions led by Kixx coaches Josh and Ellie. Last week we were Pirates…. ooh arr! This week we have been Swamp Monkeys. The children moved in a variety of ways, whilst pretending to be monkeys swinging from branches. Listening and observation skills were a must. Utilising all of their gross motor skills manipulating balls that were crocodile eggs. It was a challenge not to break them, the skill was egg-stravagant!

Celebrating Pancake Day 🥞

Today we celebrated Shrove Tuesday and the start of Lent in the best way possible… tasting pancakes!

Children in EYFS were able to choose a topping to spread on their pancake. It’s no surprise that the most popular option was chocolate spread. 😋 The children were challenged to use their fine motor skills to control the knife and spread their topping independently.

Today we have also enjoyed listening to the story Mr Wolf’s Pancakes by Jan Fearnley and reading more information about why we celebrate Shrove Tuesday by eating pancakes. We discussed how tomorrow is the start of Lent and the beginning of the countdown to Easter Sunday. ✝️🐣 We are going to continue learning more about Easter and why it is a special Christian celebration later in the term.

Let’s Connect

We are thinking about the connections we make with others this week as we mark ‘Children’s Mental Health Week 2023.’

We decorated jigsaw pieces to show the activities we do that help us to connect with others.

In crew we played the hooola hoop game, talking about the connections we have made as we passed the hoop around the circle.

Positive connections help us to keep our minds happy and healthy. We are all connected!

Magic Mathematicians

Class 6 have been working incredibly hard in maths this week. They started by measuring in cm and m and demonstrated great collaboration when checking each others measurements.

They then moved on to solving problems to do with measures using all four operations to help. Once again they worked with their partners, sharing ideas and explaining their reasoning.

Great work Class 6!

Critique Detectives

I have been blown away by class 5 this morning! Not only did we write a fantastic postcard class model to Lulu the donkey (from our core text!) but we critiqued it to decide how we could make our independent work tomorrow even more incredible!

I can’t wait to see what you all produce!

Class Two Meet Baby Nathaniel

This week we are hooking into our spring term expedition ‘How do things grow and change?’. To launch this we had a very exciting visit from Baby Nathaniel who came into school with his Mummy to meet all the children in Class Two. Nathaniel is only 9 weeks old and needs a lot of love and care from his Mummy which is something we learned all about this morning.

We had a wonderful time hearing all about the things that babies can and can’t do and what a Mummy uses to look after them and help them to grow. The children loved finding objects hidden inside a baby’s sleeping bag including a bottle, dummy, muslin, toy, book, nappy and blanket.

Looking at all of Nathaniel’s things lead to a brilliant discussion on whether the children still use those objects or if they need different things now they are older.

The children were very calm and gentle with Nathaniel and really enjoyed meeting him this morning. He will be coming back into school again at the end of our expedition so we can see how he has grown and changed in that time. We are looking forward to it already!
