We had a fun and busy morning in Class 6 baking delicious chocolate chip muffins whilst consolidating our learning on measures and reading scales. Great work class 6!

Rockpool Explorers!
Last week the children had a wonderful opportunity to explore a real life rock pool. They were able to touch a starfish, hold three types of crab and stroke an anemone. We also learned some amazing facts, the children’s favourite being that the whole in the middle of the starfish is both its mouth and bottom!
Collaboration in Crew
Last week when Ros Jones came in to visit she told us about the Peace Window, a beautiful stained glass window in Doncaster Mansion House. She told us that each symbol used in the design represented something from Doncaster’s history. In crew this week we worked together to research what each picture in the Peace Window represented and also found out that the window was made for everyone in the past and everyone today who seeks peace.
Immersed in Reading
Class 6 have been enjoying our brand new fluency books in reading groups this week. We’ve been wowed by new facts we’ve learned, shared our opinions in group discussions and explored new vocabulary that will make our writing more interesting in the future. ‘Talk to the Tail’ has been a real page turner!
Spots and Dots
We had a great community meeting this morning. We thought really hard about resilience and bravery particularly when it comes to completing beautiful work that we might find tricky.
We listened to the story called The Dot about a little girl called Vashti who found art difficult but worked hard and succeeded. We all got a dot of our very own to create our own mini piece of art work which we put together to make our very own dotty masterpiece.
We finished our community meeting with crew champions – we are really proud of all of you.

World Earth Day
In crew we shared ideas about the things we can do to look after our amazing planet and made Earth Day pledges.
Getting creative in hook week…
The children have enjoyed hooking into our new expedition ‘What happens where the sea meets the shore?’ We have been busy immersing our classroom and have been very creative…
The children have used their drawing skills to draw a fish. We then critiqued our work in crew, being kind and specific so we know how to make them even better on our next draft!
We ended our week making our ocean bottles…
‘HATS ON FOR HOPE’
On Thursday 28th March it was ‘Wear a hat’ day, which is Brain Tumour Research’s annual fundraising event to bring hope to brain tumour patients and their families. This charity is very close to our hearts, having supported children and families in the past and currently who are directly affected by this terrible disease. Every March, as Brain Tumour Awareness month comes to an end, people wear their favourite hat at work, at school, in fact anywhere they go, to support this vital charity and help find a cure. Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease since records began in 2002.
We are grateful to all of our children and families who were able to support this fantastic cause and we are delighted to let you know that we managed to raise £293.00!!
The total raised by Wear A Hat Day 2024 so far is more than £100,000 and still climbing.
Key Stage 1 Crew Challenge
Our KS1 crews took part in a Humpty Dumpty crew challenge to mark our Norton Campus science week. We investigated materials to see which one would make the best jacket to protect Humpty Dumpty when he fell from the wall. After investigating the materials we voted for the ones we thought would offer the most protection. We also discussed how we could make the test fair and made predictions for the results.
Reading Crew
We loved reading and sharing our favourite books with our Crew buddies. What a lovely morning we have had!
