Mindfullness Techniques

This morning in crew we have been trying out some different calming techniques to help us. We tried out three different ones.

The first was finger breathing. This is where you use the outline of your hand to help you breathe in and out. One round gave you five, big relaxing breaths.

The next was called settling thoughts. This one was where you focussed on the sounds you could hear around you like birds tweeting, mindful music or the wind in the trees.

The final strategy was the listening game We heard the sound of a bell and we had to activate our listening to see how long we could hear the bell for.

Elizabeth enjoyed the listening game because it was really calming. Jack agreed! Katya liked the finger breathing strategy because she hadn’t seen anything like that before. Lottie enjoyed the finger breathing too because she was able to close her eyes and really focus.

I wonder when we could use these strategies outside of crew sessions.

Great start to the week Crew Parsons xx

What a perfect Friday!

Year 1 had a very busy day being food technologists. We used different skills to make a delicious Greek salad and in the afternoon we decorated our biscuits.

Following Instructions

This week, class five have been working really hard writing instructions for a Greek style salad. Today we have tested out the instructions using our new design technology skills. We were really proud of the results – it tasted delicious!

Kixxing Off!

Nursery children have had an absolute ball today! Taking part in fun physical sessions led by Kixx coaches Josh and Ellie. Last week we were Pirates…. ooh arr! This week we have been Swamp Monkeys. The children moved in a variety of ways, whilst pretending to be monkeys swinging from branches. Listening and observation skills were a must. Utilising all of their gross motor skills manipulating balls that were crocodile eggs. It was a challenge not to break them, the skill was egg-stravagant!

Class 3 mathematicians

In maths lessons we have been working collaboratively through a series of addition and subtraction number problems. We did a great job of using different strategies to work out the answers to some tricky questions.

We have also enjoyed exploring capacity and volume so we are now ready to use these skills in our baking next week.

Well done Class 3…..you have all worked really hard this week!
