Science week went hand in hand with the culmination of our expedition on “How do things grow and change?” So we combined the two celebrations and it was great! The children show cased and shared their learning and beautiful work with their families. Together they experimented with planting cress heads and making bird feeders.
The children shared their learning journeys displaying work from over three case studies which were as follows; How can I help my body to grow? What happens when we plant a seed? And What happens to animals as they grow?
And took home their final products, a Daffodil in a hand decorated pot, tied with a ribbon of their size at the beginning of the expedition. Just look at our beautiful work!
Today a little girl in Class 1 chose to make something for another child in our class, something she knew he would like. She made him smile so widely and it really touched my heart. Be kind, always xx
As part of our celebrations for Science Week, we invited our adults to investigate with us! We followed instructions to make slime, planted our own sunflower seeds to take care of, made and tested cup phones and recreated the life cycle of a butterfly.
Thank you to all of the grown ups who joined us to become scientists for the morning.
Yesterday we had a brilliant time at Boston Park Farm. There were many different activities for us to do and lots of fun to be had! We saw alpacas, pigs, cows, sheep, goats, ponies, chickens, turkeys, rabbits and guinea pigs!
We enjoyed feeding the animals. Children learned to hold their hands out flat to allow the animals to eat the food without nibbling their fingers.
Farmer David took us for a ride in the trailer pulled along by his huge red tractor. We then had the chance to look at the other farm machinery and have a sit on the other tractors. There was a ginormous combine harvester, the children aren’t even as tall as the front tyre!
We ate our lunch in the dining hall and played together outside.
We also met the just born lambs in the lambing shed. They were very excitable!
We also had great time creating some pictures of the lambs using crayons and popcorn!
We were so proud of how polite and well behaved the children were. They were all so sensitive to the animals as they were handling them and fantastic representations of our school.
On Tuesday Nursery were lucky enough to visit Boston Park Farm as part of our exploration of our over arching guiding question for our current expedition of ”How do things grow and change?” The children had a wonderful day exploring the farm and meeting the animals in their natural environment – a very first for some of us. We met cows, goats, sheep, pigs, horses, donkeys, alpacas, chickens and cockerels, turkeys, rabbits and a firm favourite spring lambs!
There were bumpy tractor rides through the fields and forests into the open countryside led by Farmer Jack. The children were invited to sit on and experience the tractors in the barns… some pretended they were going to plough the fields, others were going to collect the cows, whilst some were going the seaside on their tractor. A thrilling encounter for any child!
We took part in farm themed crafts using loose parts and natural materials to create our very own sheep. The children used fine motor skills to carefully construct their creations. They all looked fabulous!
Between all of the hard work and exploring the children also had some free time to pursue their own agenda and visit the beautiful play grounds and areas available really soaking up the sun and nature around them.
Not to mention lunch! Children were excited to share their lunchtime and experiences with each other, making new friends as both Nursery sessions were together.
We also had a stow away – who wanted to come and experience the farm too… one of Nurseries Everywhere Bears!! He had fun meeting the baby lambs too!
Each year, March 8th is observed as International Women’s Day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women from all around the world
Today in Crew Parsons, we talked about women who have been influential in our lives and women we have learned about during our expedition and crew such as Rosa Parks, Greta Thunberg and Professor Sarah Gilbert.
The children generated words which are qualities we think these women all have. They then decided who they know who show them these qualities everyday. We made our word cloud into cards to show the people at home and school how much we appreciate them – so if you received a card today – thank you for being influential to the children in my crew 💛
We have spent time researching healthy recipes to get ideas for our baking day. We were really surprised by some of the ingredients that we could use.
We decided to make a healthy chocolate muffin using ingredients such as Greek yoghurt, apple sauce and cinnamon! We were really surprised by how delicious they were.
