Mindful Monday in Crew Parsons

We started our crew circle with a funny check in this morning – how are you feeling?

Then we took our crew circle outside for a walk in the sunshine whilst we shared our news from over half term. When we circled back up we shared something we had found out from someone else in our crew – we even had a squirrel want to join our crew!!

What a lovely way to start the week!

Lest We Forget – how does war change lives?

The Second World War may feel like several lifetimes ago to some of us, but there are still thousands of people for whom it was a lived experience,  something they will never forget.

Years 3 and 4 in all the Primary Schools across our Trust, have through their recent expedition Lest we Forget: How does war change Lives? examined the lives of local people and national figures – all of whom have stories that deserve to be shared.

Four beautiful books have been created, capturing times both traumatic and remarkable.

From Pat Grainger, who lives in the centre of Doncaster and remembers the Corn Exchange cellars being used as an air raid shelter, or Harry Hewitt who as a child helped the war effort by being a runner – delivering messages between the Home Guards.

The research for these books has been thorough, the original poetry and illustrations adding so much to the work that has become a valuable and treasured resource of stories from a time past, but part of our history and community.

Celebration Crew

Another lovely celebration crew this morning. I was so impressed with the children who achieved awards this week for lots of different things – following HoWLs, being kind and lots of amazing phonics work going on!

We also loved hearing what each class had been learning this week – thank you Barney D, Tayla G, Eric C, Ava W, Willow C and Myla A for sharing your learning so confidently.

I wonder who we will be celebrating next term?

Yorkshire Air Ambulance Land Art.

Nursery were visited on Wednesday 24th May by an expert visitor, Holly, from the Yorkshire Air Ambulance charity. Holly talked to the children about the role of the Air Ambulance and it’s Crew, whilst telling us interesting facts such as; it travels at 160mph, the helicopter costs £19,000 per day to run, there are two of them across the region and patients are treated on board just like a regular ambulance.

Nursery created their own air ambulance land art today, (after modelling and the use of a photo as a stimulus) using large loose parts in the outdoor area. They worked as a team to decide which materials to choose and which materials were most suitable in terms of shape, colour and size.

I think you’ll all agree the children have created some amazing land art in the shape and tones of the Air Ambulance. Such beautiful work! They have also learned key words such as Landing Skids, Propellers, Rotors and Ambulance body.

Walking challenge

This week in our crew sessions we have been promoting walking and discussing the benefits of this. We walk for inclusion, sustainability, health, mindfulness and for friendship. We have loved the sunny mornings, getting outside and walking around our beautiful school grounds then checking out with a word or caption to describe how walking makes us feel. Some of the words used by our Year One children were, ’happy’, ’joyful’, ’calm’, peaceful’, ’lively’ and ’closer to nature’.

Skipping into the half term 😄

We celebrated some of our wonderful children’s achievements in our community meeting this morning. We have shown kindness to others, worked hard in phonics and have been challenging ourselves. Noah enjoyed sharing his football medal. 👏

The children are amazing us with their efforts in writing and have written some imaginative stories. We have also enjoyed lots of outdoor learning in the beautiful sun shine this week.🌞 Thank you for all your hard work and for making us smile xx

Yorkshire Air Ambulance 🚁

We’ve had an amazing visit today. Holly came to talk to the children about the Yorkshire Air Ambulance service. We learned all about where the helicopters live, how fast they travel and the places they might go to.

Isla shared the incredible news about her mum, who recently ran the London marathon and raised £1000 for this amazing charity 👏

A big thanks to all those who have kindly donated to the charity’s clothes bank. It costs £19,000 each day to keep this amazing crew going so every little helps.

Back in the classroom the children have enjoyed writing about what they have learned from our expert visitor…

Mae Jemison – BBK

Class 5 have been busy this morning building background knowledge and creating anchor charts all about Mae Jemison.

Super research and note taking skills everyone!
