Our Reception children continue to amaze us with the wonderful start they have made to the school year. This week they have started their reading journey in daily phonics sessions. They have also enjoyed exploring mathematical thinking in our counting collections session today.
We have also continued to explore our kindness theme with the help of the Hugasaurus book. We created an anchor chart of kind actions of Hugasaurus and then we all had a great time ripping and scrunching paper to make our very own Hugasaurus!
This week at Plover, students in EYFS completed a sponsored Bear walk as part of their new Expedition! They raised £1148 to support their local community – and dressed up as bears to perform bear related exercises and have fun during the process! Beautiful work!
Beautiful Curation at XP Gateshead
Last week, Comms installed some new wonderful displays of student work at XP Gateshead. These wall displays are culminations of recent Expeditions and Activism from the last year.
Steplab Coaching @ XP Trust
Last Monday, our staff worked closely with Steplab to start implementing their ICT platform for coaching across XP Trust. Staff spent the day looking at effective coaching and learning and how Steplab can help create a positive culture around it.
Crew JPO/JNO’s Ullswater Story
Over the coming week’s we’ll be sharing more stories of Crew from our recent Outward Bound Expedition – here’s another from Crew JPO/JNO!
The children have blown me away with their mathematical thinking skills in our very first counting collections session of the year! They worked beautifully in pairs, listening to one another and taking turns. Here we are in action…
The children were so happy to discover that the Kindness Elves had returned with yet another gift…
We began to explore the question ‘How do we show we care?’ through the lens of ‘The Hugasaurus’. We created an anchor chart of the kind acts Hugasaurus carried out and thought about what kind actions we do everyday. Here are some photographs of the children showing kindness…
The children enjoyed getting creative and each made their very own Hugasaurus…
Class 3 have been astounding me with their sorting and counting skills this week. They have been finding different ways to sort objects and described their groups to their partners.
They they showed me how wonderfully they can count by organising their collections and recording in different ways.
Well done everyone, you demonstrated great team work and proved that you really are magic mathematicians!
Y2 have kicked off our Autumn expedition in style with a fun filled week of activites. To start the week, we had an exciting visit from an expert – Mr Lamb!!
We have been artists. We spent the week creating stained glass windows, castle flags, clay shields and tissue paper torches. We have also been looking at the story of Cinderella, thinking about the characters and of course Cinderella’s glass slippper. To finish the week we threw a party fit for princes and princesses – all the children came dressed to impress with their own crowns and played party games, ate buns and revealed our title and guiding question.
It has been lovely getting to know the children over the last two weeks and we are so excited to full jump into our expedition!
As part of the close to an amazing hook week, last Friday the children came in their summer clothes and brought in their special soft toys and teddies to share a picnic with their new friends. The children and their families kindly donated food to show an example of how we are kind and share. We all had lots of fun and it was a special end to a very positive first week exploring our new autumn expedition “Be Kind – How do we show we care?”
Class 1 really enjoyed their first P.E session. They really impressed us with their super listening ears. They demonstrated their balancing skills and even took part in some team games.
The children have enjoyed a delicious picnic in the sunshine today. Thank you to all the parents for your kind donations. The children had such a lovely time and it was a great way to end the week.
We celebrated the end of our second full week in Reception with our Community Meeting in the sunshine. It was lovely to see lots of happy, smiley faces talking about the fun that we have had this week in crew. It was very difficult to choose our stars of the week for working hard, been kind and getting smart as all children have continued to amaze us. Well done Reception.
