Extreme Reading Challenge

Books don’t need electricity! We can read them anywhere and everywhere! We are inviting you all (including parents, families and staff) to take part in our Norton Infant School Extreme Reading Challenge. This is to celebrate the opening of our new library area in school – keep checking our blog and social media over the next few weeks to see the children enjoying the brand new library.

Think about different, exciting, fun and safe places where you can enjoy a book, and simply take a photograph. There will be prizes for the most creative photograph in each year group. Simply email the photograph to [email protected] with your child’s name and year group. If we could have all entries by Monday 13th September please, this will give us time to pick the winners and display all the entries in our new library.

Have fun extreme reading, we can’t wait to see all the extreme reading happening at Norton Infant School.

First day in Class Five

We have just finished our first day in class five, and what a day it was!

We started the day getting to know our new crews – why not ask your child which crew they are in? ( Crew Parsons, Crew Robson, Crew Thurman, Crew Wilkinson or Crew Moloney?)

Next we had a think about what we want our classroom to feel like, look like and sound like. We came up with some fantastic suggestions to make our classroom an amazing place to learn.

Followed by working in pairs on a word search with lots of important vocabulary linked to school.

We worked together in our crews and took part in a quiz, everyone did brilliantly! Crew Parsons won and took the first point in our crew competition (yay!)

In the afternoon we spent some time reading.

And we finished the day by working together to create a time capsule to open before we leave year two. We included cut outs of our hands, string to show how tall we are and a fact file about our likes and dislikes now. I wonder how much we will all grow and change over the year?

If we can achieve all that in day one, I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year holds!

Make sure you keep checking our blog to find out,

FOOTBALLS COMING HOME!!

We know that some of you will be up late Sunday night watching the football match, and its going to be a late night. We want the children to enjoy the evening and rather than come in tired, or not at all we’re extending our opening times! This is for Monday only!

School will be open at normal time but you will have up to 10am to arrive, after this late marks will be applied.

It is 55 years since England reached a major football final so let them watch, talk about the importance of the National Anthem, talk about pride and resilience and possibly (but hopefully not) disappointment. This is a learning opportunity in itself.

Please stay safe, but most of all enjoy the event and have fun!

Come on England! #NortonInspired

Case Study 2: Music

In Class 3 we have been using the chrome books to research our chosen instruments.

We have also been studying instruments and making sketches to accompany our fact files.

In maths this week we have been recapping telling the time and having fun playing games using our number bonds to 10 and 20.
