This week the children have really impressed me with their maths skills. We have been finding pairs of numbers that make 10. We have used numicon and multilink to help us find all our number bonds to 10. This is us working hard in Maths this week…

This week we have been historians researching the time line of King Charles III and exploring his family tree.

We have also been design technologists researching coins in preparation for designing our own coronation commemorative coins.

Finally, we demonstrated our beautiful handwriting in our invitations to our grown ups for Friday’s celebration.

We have had a great time with crafts, painting, making a Royal chain and designing a new coin for King Charles coronation party.

Nursery have been immersed in the story of Little Red Riding Hood this week. We have been identifying the main characters, thinking and talking about what they are like and comparing the Wolf and Red Riding Hood. We have been retelling the story in a host of ways including sequencing using story stones…

We have experimented with role play and acted out the roles of our key characters in small groups using story language and we were fabulous!! Look out for our videos on Dojo!

We thought about how Red Riding Hood travelled to her Granny’s house and made maps of her journey…

We enjoyed acting out the story in our story circle using props 😁 We had some great performances 👏

Class 5 came to school ready to make a journey! We had explorers, air hostesses and lots of excited holiday makers. We can’t wait to discover our guiding question later today.

We have created some beautiful work this week. We have been looking at a book titled ‘Martha Maps it Out’. We made links between the map of her local area and what we might find in ours. We took the children on a walk around Norton to see if we were right.
We enjoyed our walk and the children behaved beautifully!

Back in school we have mapped out our journey and have created some beautiful work. Here are some of our amazing maps…

This week we have been hooking into our next expedition titled ‘Would you travel by wheels, wings or other things?’. Yesterday the children explored the book Martha Maps It Out by Leigh Hodgkinson. In the story Martha creates maps of lots of different places including her local village. The children worked collaboratively to notice and discuss all the features of Martha’s map. We then used this as a stimulus to predict what we might notice when travelling on foot around our local area. Were they the same or different to Martha? The only way to find out was to go on a walk…

We walked a circular route around Norton village passing The Royal Hotel, Baps and Wraps, the park, windmill and Junior School playing fields. The children spotted and discussed so many other features of their local area including sign posts, bus stops, passing vehicles, wildlife, pets and people of different occupations. Some children enjoyed pointing out their own homes too!

When we were back in school we looked again at the predictions we recorded about what we might see on our walk. The children’s ideas were fantastic suggestions and we ticked off most of our things on our lists! Well done Class 2 ☺️
Nursery have been experimenting this week with building our own vehicles from large deconstructed materials. We have been teamwork tigers, helping to source, fetch and carry the different parts. The children have been building upon each others ideas, particularly after the inspiring visit from the vintage bus and seeing what our reception classes have created throughout the week also.

This week Nursery have been lucky enough to have had a visit from a vintage, red, London bus to kick off our new expedition on “Would you travel by wheels, wings or other things?” The children were very excited to climb aboard the double decker and were interested in examining key features of the bus acquiring lots of new language such as…

The driver kindly played along with an imaginary trip to the seaside, pulling the bus forward and backwards in the car park to allow the children to experience the sound and buzz of the engine. He also sounded his horn and let the children experiment with the bell. Nursery sat on both the lower and the top deck of the bus and looked out of the windows to see what they could see.
