Magic Mathematicians

Class 6 have been working incredibly hard in maths this week. They started by measuring in cm and m and demonstrated great collaboration when checking each others measurements.

They then moved on to solving problems to do with measures using all four operations to help. Once again they worked with their partners, sharing ideas and explaining their reasoning.

Great work Class 6!

Planting Bulbs

The children have really enjoyed planting their bulbs this week. We are learning all about how to take care of them 🌸🌻🌷

Problem Solvers 🔎

We have been busy this morning solving problems to do with measures. We have had to use all four operations to help us – some of us even used the inverse to check our answers!

Vocabulary Spies!

I am so impressed with the vocabulary I have heard around our class this morning. We began looking at the front cover of our new core text – The Green Ship. We created collaborative graffiti walls of all of the descriptive vocabulary we could think of to describe the front cover. After that our vocabulary spies were let loose to go and magpie some ideas from the different groups.

Our end product of the lesson was an awesome anchor chart of vocabulary for us to use in our writing this week – I’m looking forward to reading what you produce class five.

Measuring in metres

We have been building upon our prior learning this morning – using centimetres and metres to measure objects around our school.

Super job Class Five,

SumDog

Started our morning with SumDog – we are making some great progress in our maths with these games.

I’m sending a copy of the login details tonight because some of the children are wanting to play at home but have misplaced their login details – any problems, just let me know.

Measuring Mathematicians

We have been busy this afternoon! Lots of different length lines and straws appeared around our classroom so we used our skills to measure how long they were, then we checked the accuracy of our measuring by checking each others.

Awesome work class five,

Celebrating Chinese New Year.

Last week Nursery children celebrated the Chinese Lunar New Year. They watched a video about the celebration and learned about the importance of various symbols within Chinese culture, such as the colour red, fireworks and the animals that represent each year within the Chinese zodiac calendar. They also learned about traditions within the culture that are carried out in preparation for the celebration.

The children experienced some real Chinese decorations and artefacts gifted to us by one of our community members, who spoke about them proudly in Crew. All of the children listened carefully and were very interested to look at the materials.

All Nursery Children then explored Chinese New Year further within provision. They were Go for it Gorillas using fine motor skills to manipulate chopsticks to pick up woollen “Noodles”. Some created a Year of the Rabbit, bouncing rabbit, others painted beautiful pictures of Dragons and Chinese symbols used to represent numbers. We sculpted dragons and noodles using play dough and experimented with traditional Chinese dress in the role play area. We even tried Prawn Crackers with Sweet and Sour sauce too at snack time. I think everyone had lots of fun and brought themselves lots of luck for the Chinese New Year.
