Oliver’s Vegetables

After reading our new core text ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ we have been finding out all about spinach. In our tasting session everyone was willing to have a try and some of us were even surprised that we liked it! We identified the features of fact files in preparation for writing some of our own. Finally, we ended the afternoon with a lovely art lesson and gallery walk to look at everyone’s first drafts. We can’t wait to have a go at a second draft.

Musician of the Week

As part of our expedition, one of our ongoing strands is going to be Music. To help us ensure the children are exposed to a wide range of musicians and genres, both past and present, we are going to be having a musician of the week.

We will be listening to music from the artist/s each morning as the children enter the classroom and we will be learning more about the artist as the week goes on.

Each week we will add a playlist to our website and ClassDojo pages, this will enable you to share in the Musician of the Week and listen along at home too!

We had a great time this morning dancing around the classroom to our first musician/s – Abba!

Enjoy,

Mrs Parsons xx

RE- Our wonderful Christmas concert

It has been a truly magical morning for the children and their parents celebrating Christmas festival with us. The children were absolutely amazing acting out with confidence and spreading their joy and happiness around. Well done everybody!

Crew in Year 1

We have had a lovely week in our crew reading books with our partners and looking at our beautiful work. We enjoyed our story time and a warm cup of hot chocolate during our outdoor crew session.

Class 3 at Conisbrough Castle

We had an amazing day at Conisbrough Castle and learnt so much about it’s history from our expert guide Janet.

We explored inside the stone keep and saw Lord Hamlin and Lady Isabelle’s private rooms and chapel.

We even climbed to the top to see how far the guards could see when they were defending the castle.

After lunch we listened to a story about castle life and heard about the people who would have lived and worked there, we all enjoyed dressing up and getting into character.

We’ve learnt so much to help us along in our expedition ‘From Rags to Riches: What Lies Within the Castle Walls?’

Magic Maths!

Class 3 have been astounding me with their sorting and counting skills this week. They have been finding different ways to sort objects and described their groups to their partners.

They they showed me how wonderfully they can count by organising their collections and recording in different ways.

Well done everyone, you demonstrated great team work and proved that you really are magic mathematicians!

Year One Sports Morning

What a beautiful morning it was for our annual sports day. The children took part in events such as hurdles, javelin, dribbling the football, long jump, egg and spoon race and our favourite….the sack race! Every child tried their very best and all enjoyed competing in the events. It was a very close competition – the blue team were the winners with the orange and yellow teams coming a close second and third. We ended the morning with a special ice lolly treat kindly provided by FONCA. We all had a great time!
