Class Three Complete Their Superhero Training!

Today was no ordinary school day in Class Three – it was Superhero Training Day, and what an incredible day it was!

From the moment the children arrived, it was clear we were in for lots of fun. Dressed in their superhero finest, the class looked fabulous!

Our heroes faced a series of exciting and challenging missions designed to test their courage, creativity, and strength:

They put their brains to the test, solving tricky superhero-themed riddles and Paw Patrol codebreakers.

Next, they used their artistic superpowers to design their very own superhero badges and had so much fun joining in with our superhero song and dance.

Disaster struck when our class superhero, Walt, got stuck in a tree! But fear not – Class Three leapt into action with teamwork, problem-solving, and a whole lot of determination to bring him back to safety. Mission accomplished!

Physical Training – Finally, they completed their superhero training with some energetic physical challenges. Whether it was agility, strength, or speed – our heroes showed they had what it takes!

After all their hard work and heroic effort, each member of Class Three was proudly awarded their official Superhero Training Certificate. They truly earned their titles today!

Well done, Superheroes – you made us all proud.

Our First Expert Visitor – Author & Illustrator Phil Sheppard

Today we were lucky enough to welcome our very first expert visitor of the expedition – the brilliant author and illustrator Phil Sheppard!

Phil shared some of his fantastic stories with us, and we especially loved The Worm Book. There were plenty of laughs and lots of fun as he brought the story to life while reading aloud.

Afterwards, we took part in a draw along where we learned how to create our very own superheroes. The children did an amazing job and showed off some fantastic creativity!

To make the day even more special, we had the opportunity to buy our very own signed book by Phil – a real treasure to keep.

We all agreed that Phil truly deserved one of our special Community Hero awards for his craftsmanship and the quality of his work. What an inspiring start to our expedition!

How does what I do impact others?

Class Three have enjoyed some lovely stories whilst exploring our crew question ‘How does what I do impact others?’

Working together as a team was so much fun in the sunshine, we worked hard to solve problems by sharing ideas and listening to each other.

We thought about our own families at home and how we are a big family in our crew and class at school. We worked together to create our crew norms and thought about what makes a happy classroom.

Finally we thought about how we could make kindness our own superpower and spread happiness amongst our friends. Year One decorated biscuits and gifted them to the children in Reception to welcome them into school.

Working together as artists

In Class Three we have been studying and taking inspiration from the American artist Deborah Shapiro. She uses newspapers and magazines to create wildlife collage artwork. It was so much fun spotting the hidden words and images within the artwork during our gallery walk in the classroom.

We worked together to create our class collage.

We are incredibly proud of our beautiful work!

Feely bags and the match box challenge

Crew Goodyer enjoyed taking part in some fun crew sessions outdoors this week led by Mrs Jackson. We began by using our senses to explore and describe objects found out in our school grounds.

We then took part in the matchbox challenge to see which team could fit the most objects into a matchbox. Frankie and Eliza were excited to be named champions!

World Maths Day 2025

We spent time celebrating World Maths Day in our key stage one community meeting this morning. We thought about when we use maths outside of school, why it is important and we even talked about some famous mathematicians!

We finished our community meeting with some maths puzzles. I was very impressed how people were grappling to solve the problems!

Science Week Community Meeting

This week in our Wise Wednesday community meeting we reminded ourselves of our new Science characters that are going to help us to think scientifically.

Next, we had some Science riddles to try and solve – look at how many scientific superstars we had this morning!

I wonder if you can solve the riddles? Have a go …

1 – With my powerful lens you can look at the stars, and spot the planets like Venus and Mars.

2 – I’m a type of energy. You use me every day … for light, cooking, computers and the music that you play.

3 – I am a gas that is found in the air. Without me, there would be no life anywhere!

4 – I am a precious metal mined from deep underground. I’m yellow in colour. In jewellery, I’m found.

5 – I am part of your body, with a very important role. Your voice, sight and memory are some things I control.

6 – I can be sunshine, snow, wind or rain. I change every day … people often complain!

7 – Plant and animal cells too tiny to see are magnified when you look through me.

8 – I am a liquid. In rivers I flow When I freeze I am ice. I’m called H2O!

Good Luck

Year 1 Dance

Year One have loved the start of our dance unit this half term. So far we have been learning about some of the principles of dance and practising key skills such as balancing and travelling. We’ve had fun linking these actions together to create sequences and have worked with our partners using our 8 counts to hold our balances.
