Thank you Dr Teanby-Clark

Dr Teanby-Clark called to talk to us about being a doctor. We asked lots of questions and found out new information. Lots of us want to be doctors when we grow up now. We’ve had a great afternoon in Reception.

How do I work and what makes me healthy?

We have had a very busy half term in Class 1 getting to know each other and starting our first expedition of the year:

As part of our hook week we made a giant ‘Guess Who’ board.  We had lots of fun looking at photographs of ourselves as babies and discussing how we have changed now we are 4 and 5 years old:

We have also been looking at the outside of our bodies and naming our body parts.  We looked closely at the colour of our skin, hair and eyes to paint a self-portrait:

We have then been learning about what is inside our body and what makes our body work:

We look forward to learning lots more about our body after half term.

Lunch times

We are really proud of how the reception children have settled into their lunch time routines

Busy day

It’s been a busy day in our class today learning about repeating patterns, sharing stories and labelling body parts.

Welcome to Reception

Good afternoon everybody.

It has been a wonderful day welcoming you all back into school.   We have spent time with lots of happy children exploring their new classrooms and outdoor area.

We are looking forward to an enjoyable year learning lots of new things.

Best wishes Mrs Powell and Mrs Ponsonby

The Enormous Turnip

The children in school enjoyed this story last week.  We had lots of fun retelling and acting out the story and couldn’t believe that the little mouse made such a big difference!!

Here are a few samples of our home learning fun last week:

Another great effort from the children and families in Class 1 this week.  I am really looking forward to sharing the fabulous story sacks that have been made as part of our home learning expedition.  Watch this space and we will share them soon.

Photograph error

I apologise that the photographs on my last post are not visible.  I think I know why and will sort the problem as soon as possible.

Thanks,  Mrs Powell

The Elves and the Shoemaker

This week we have been reading the story of The Elves and the Shoemaker.  I’ve got to admit I’ve never really used this story with a class before but I think it has been one of my favourite weeks of our traditional tales expedition so far.  As always I have been amazed by the response from children in Class 1.  I have seen some truly wonderful activities taking place and have also seen lots of shoe designs that I would love to be able to buy in the shops!!

Here are just a few examples of our beautiful work this week:

Fancy dress Friday!!

Bae decided to do his home learning dressed as Spiderman yesterday and this inspired this to happen in the homes of children in Class 1 today:

Thank you Bae for giving us such a good idea……..there has been some fabulous work done today whilst dressed as our favourite characters……you are all superheroes!!!
