Fun in P.E…

One of our favourite times of the week is our P.E session with Mr Woods. The children loved taking part in some team work games. They demonstrated strength, balance and coordination. Great work Class 1!

The certificates this week were awarded to Rianna and Carter for great listening skills and following instructions. Super job!

We can change the world!

I would like to make a shout out to a little girl in class 1 who visited the seaside at the weekend. We are currently learning all about plastic pollution and the harm that it can cause to our seas. Aurora found some rubbish at the seaside and told her mummy that it didn’t belong there. She put it in the bin and said she wants to save our planet. You are a real life super hero Aurora, thank you for being so kind and for making our world a better place.

This week in class 1 the children have been very creative. They have made posters to tell everyone how important it is to save our seas and recycle…

Rockpool Magic

Over the past couple of weeks the children have been acquiring the knowledge to answer our case study one question ‘How can we save our oceans?’ With our lack of access to coastal wildlife, we decided to bring marine life to Norton Infant School! The children thoroughly enjoyed this unique experience and got up close and personal with ocean life. You only have to look at their faces to see how captivated they were…

The children enjoyed learning interesting and funny facts about the sea creatures. They also impressed our expert visitors with their knowledge of plastic pollution and they showed real care and concern for marine life.

Following our visit, the children have been writing with real enthusiasm and stamina. They have created some beautiful work and have blown me away with their skills!

How can we help save the ocean?

This week class one have been reading ‘Harry Saves the Ocean!’ It taught us all about plastic pollution and how Harry and his friends work together to help clean the ocean.

In crew, we looked at pictures from the story and identified all the items that didn’t belong in the sea.

We have been sorting plastic into useful plastic and single use plastic…

We went on a gallery walk around the classroom and looked at images from the sea. The children had to decide if the images made them feel happy or sad.

Well done for working so hard class 1! The children have shown a real care and concern about the plastic pollution problem, which has been really heart warming. We understand that working together is key to making a change. As it says in our core text (Harry Saves The Ocean!)… ‘It’s a big job for one but if we all lend a hand, We’ll soon make a difference to the sea and the sand’.

Dear World…

Today the children in EYFS had a wonderful time going to the Junior School hall to listen to children in Years 3 and 4 sing Dear World. This song was written by Key Stage Two children in their previous expedition that explored the importance of looking after our planet.

In their current expedition the children in EYFS are learning all about sea conservation and the need to recycle plastic waste so it was a perfect opportunity to listen again to Dear World and the poignant message it has. Thank you to the Junior School for a fantastic performance, the legacy of your beautiful work lives on!

Getting creative in hook week…

The children have enjoyed hooking into our new expedition ‘What happens where the sea meets the shore?’ We have been busy immersing our classroom and have been very creative…

The children have used their drawing skills to draw a fish. We then critiqued our work in crew, being kind and specific so we know how to make them even better on our next draft!

We ended our week making our ocean bottles…

Hoppy Easter!

Wishing you all a ‘Hoppy Easter’…

We had a very special visitor today… Easter Bunny dropped off a chocolate egg for us to take home! It was very exciting…

Finding the magic in science…

This week in reception the children have been scientists. We have been learning about how things grow and how we care for plants. We planted our very own cress seeds. It’s been great watching them grow…

We wanted to find out about how plants absorb water. We carried out the ‘celery colour change’ experiment. We discovered that tiny tubes transport the water and it moves up into the celery.

Finally we investigated things that change state. We made predictions about things that melt and things that won’t melt. The children enjoyed passing around the ice and feeling it changing state. The excitement continues tomorrow when we will be melting chocolate and making something yummy!
