Once Upon a Time…

During the spring term children in the EYFS took part in a learning expedition titled ‘Once Upon a Time’ answering the question ‘Who is hiding in the pages of this book?’ The children explored many traditional fairy tales and completed activities all about the characters and events in the books.

Yesterday the children presented their learning to their parents and carers. They explained the key learning that took place, shared photographs of the activities they took part in and sang songs about the stories. We also shared the children’s learning journals looking at the beautiful work they had created.

Finally, the children were presented with a story book to take home that they will keep as a lasting legacy of this expedition. Inside the book is a QR code that leads to a video of our EYFS children performing a song titled ‘Watch Out for the Troll‘. Well done Class 2, you are working so hard and getting so smart!

Class 1 – Celebration of Learning 🌟📚

In the Spring of 2024, EYFS pupils studied a cross-curricular expedition titled ‘Once Upon a Time’’ looking to answer the guiding question ‘Who is hiding in the pages of this book?’  The expedition moved through three case studies each focussing on key events within traditional fairy tales.

Today the children got to share their learning with their grown ups in our celebration of learning event. We sang ‘watch out for the troll’ and ‘Gingerbread man on the run’, the children performed them beautifully! We also got to share what our favourite fairytale over the expedition has been. Finally, the children were presented with a story book that they will keep as a lasting reminder of our ‘Once upon a time’ expedition. In the book is a QR code that leads to a video of our EYFS children singing a fairytale song. We hope you enjoy watching this performance 🌟

A huge well done to all the children for working so hard and putting on a great presentation. Also a big thank you to our families for coming along. It really was a lovely event 😊

What a page turner World Book Day was!

Nursery had the most wonderfully fun Wonka themed World Book Day! There were visits from Willy Wonka himself, who sang and dished out chocolate bars to all! Two lucky children even won a golden ticket to choose a prize from Wonka’s Chocolate factory. The children arrived in their beautiful story inspired costumes and what a range we had! A fantastic effort from everyone.

Nursery explored and played with special book themed play trays, including popular stories and nursery rhymes. They also coloured traditional tale colouring sheets of some familiar characters from our recent expedition.

Nursery also had lots of DEAR (Drop everything and read) time with grown ups sharing our favourite stories that children had brought in and some of our own, including two special stories from “Mystery Masked Readers”. The children listened carefully and had to guess who was hiding behind the masks?

We really did have the best World Book Day yet!

World Book Day 📕🍫

We had the most amazing time on World Book Day and there was laughter and smiles all round all day! The children looked fantastic in their costumes and they loved taking part in so many fun activities. It was very exciting for all children to receive a Wonka Bar from Willy Wonka himself. The lucky golden ticket winners got the chance to visit his pop-up toy shop to choose a gift to take home.

A huge thank you to the Friends of Norton Campus Association for organising such a wonderful event for the children! And a big shout out to Mr Carr for embracing the opportunity to create some magic for the day!

One magical day in March 📚🌟

The children arrived on World Book Day looking like they had jumped right out of the pages of a book! Super effort from everyone. You all looked brilliant!

We read one of our favourite stories in class 1 called ‘The Disgusting Sandwich’ . The children then made their very own disgusting sandwiches! They were truly revolting!

We also got creative making Gruffalo and fox faces…

We then heard the sounds of someone singing…only to see Willy Wonka roly poly straight into our classroom! We each got given a wonka chocolate bar and one lucky child discovered a golden ticket. Mason was our lucky winner. What a fantastic experience for all the children!

The fun didn’t end there! We each got to roll out and decorate our very own gingerbread man. They were delicious!

The Tiger actually came for tea…

We got to find Wally with Wally…

We’ve had such a magical day. A big thanks goes out to all those who made it so special 😊

I hope you all end World Book Day snuggled in bed with a book. In the words of Dr Seuss…

The Tin Forest

We are really enjoying reading ‘The Tin Forest’ in Year One. We made some fabulous predictions about the story before reading it together. We then carried out a silent conversation and came up with some fabulous adjectives to describe the forest. We are looking forward to using these adjectives when we write our story setting.

Building Bridges…

Nursery this week have continued to study the traditional tale of The Gingerbread Man. We have been investigating “How can we help the Gingerbread Man to cross the River?” We noticed the point in the story, in which the Gingerbread Man runs into trouble; having to cross the water whilst everyone is chasing him. Some of the suggestions given by the children were; “A boat”, “An aeroplane”, “A bridge”, “Another animal”, “A frog” and “A submarine”.

The children used photos of various types of bridges from around the world as inspiration and material to create the water. They then constructed their bridges either alone or in small groups working collaboratively and added their own details. Just look at our beautiful work! The story language which the children used as they tested out the bridge with a Gingerbread Man, was amazing!
