Our latest Trust publication ‘Rail City’ was launched at the amazing Doncaster Gallery, Library and museum – DGLaM.
The book, an updated and lavishly illustrated compendium of all the work created by students across the Trust, over the last five years, captures our city’s rail heritage – and future.
It is also timely as 2023 is the Flying Scotsman’s Centenary year, the iconic steam engine built here in Doncaster.
Our thanks go to the team at DGLaM and the city council who have facilitated the launch and supported our work across the Trust.
‘Rail City’ will be on sale in DGLaM, the TIC and Waterstones in the Frenchgate Centre. The perfect present for anyone who loves rail, trains and local history. (You can also purchase the book from our online shop!)
We continue to welcome delegates from all over the world. Last week our friends and partners from the Wood Foundation in Scotland joined us once again with 25 teachers from schools in the Aberdeen area.
Over two days they looked at Crew, expeditions and the bigger picture of what we do and how we do it.
They even enjoyed a tour of our students’ work in the heart of Doncaster.
Last but not least as you can see from the photograph with their Crew they also joined in with our charity Christmas Jumper day!
Dave Evans ran a series of awesome workshops for our Year 7 students with professional musicians! Our students improvised, created digital beats, sang and played the drums!

This term the EYFS children completed an expedition titled ‘Exploring Our World’. We were hooked into our learning with a visit from an expert and his feathery friends. This piqued an interest in wild birds and their habitats. The children have worked together to assemble and decorate bird boxes that are placed around our school and community.
We decided that we were going to give the residents at The Laurels Care Home some of the bird boxes that we made. We wanted to enhance their garden area and thought they would enjoy watching the local wildlife from their windows. Some of our Year Two children kindly delivered them for us and they are now sitting under their Christmas tree. We hope that it brings a smile to their faces.
While the year two children were there, we sang some Christmas songs for the residents too. It was truly a beautiful, heart warming moment that both the children and residents enjoyed.
We would like to wish all the staff and residents at The Laurels a very Merry Christmas and we hope to see you all again very soon 🎄 xx
Crew Goodyer started the day reading for pleasure with our buddies. It was lovely to see everybody enjoying a book and sharing the reading.
We were super excited this morning to take part in our very special assembly. Mr West visited our school again and this time he taught us about the Christmas celebrations. We enjoyed acting out the Christmas story, singing Christmas songs and discussing the meaning of Christmas. We loved learning about this special festival and we are looking forward to exploring it further in our RE lessons. Thank you Mr West for making this time of year even more magical for our school!
Love this idea @xpgateshead – we are getting to know our near neighbours by creating and delivering Christmas hampers to them 🎅…we will be putting in some Christmas chocolates 🍫 too 🙂 pic.twitter.com/F86ENdvQ3A

We have been working hard in our phonics sessions, practising the formation of our letters and reading sentences. Super stars 🌟
We have strategised in our counting collections library, using 100 squares and number tracks to help us count how many objects we have altogether…
We have been making marks in the ice, discussing and noticing the changes that we see…
We have put up our class Christmas tree 🎄 It was a team effort! 🥰😊 I think you will all agree it looks dazzling 👍
This very special event has brought together nominees from across Green Top’s local community who have been recognised for their invaluable work both with and for the people of Thorne. From food banks to emergency services to care homes – all were presented awards by KS1 children at Green Top, as part of their Expedition ‘Not all superheroes wear capes’. The list and variety of work celebrated this evening was incredible and each and every award was so well deserved. Congratulations to all of you from Green Top!

Thank you to everyone who came to our presentation of learning this afternoon. It was amazing to see the children talking so confidently about their expedition so far.
Today Nursery hosted their very first Celebration of Learning to draw our expedition to a close of “What do stories tell us about Autumn?” Both Morning and Afternoon Nursery shared their learning through a series of photo slides and interaction. They sang songs to their parents and then added decorative touches to complete the final product with their parents, making the whole project a community affair. Our Bird Boxes look beautiful and are now ready to go their new homes. The children also shared their learning journeys, show casing all of their beautiful work so far! Well Done Nursery you did a great job!
