Fabulous Frayer Models

Today we looked at some new vocabulary as part of our geography case study.

The children used dictionaries to find the definition of their words and then came up with the characteristics, examples and non examples.

Well done, you were persevering parrots especially when using the dictionaries!

Feature Detectives

Class Five spent their reading lesson this morning exploring The Big Book of the Blue. We looked at lots of other non-fiction texts and picked out the main features – we talked about features like contents pages, the index and subheadings.

Being Geographers

This week Class 4 went on a scavenger hunt to find anything that links to geography. We discussed what geography means and looked at maps, atlases and earth globes to learn about coninents and oceans.

We’re going on a windmill hunt…

Today we decided we wanted to find the windmill that Class 1 had told us all about. We thought about our core text this week – Hansel and Gretel and realised that we could make a trail whilst we hunted for the windmill. It was cold, but we wrapped up well and set about finding the windmill. We had so much fun and cannot wait for our next adventure!

Story time

We have enjoyed reading the story of Hansel and Gretel. We went into the woods for a special story time.

Our local area:

Special People

We have been thinking about people who are special to us and have talked about why they are special to us.

We have been busy creating gifts for some of the special people in our lives.

Gymnastics Festival

KS1 children had a wonderful afternoon On Wednestday and visited Kirk Smeaton School to take part in the gymnastics festival. It was great to see other children from our local community, work together and support one another. All children bahaved beautifully and made Norton Infant very proud!!!

We are geographers in Class 3

This week we have been considering the question ‘What is geography?’ We took part in a scavenger hunt around school to photograph clues that helped us to answer the question. We studied a variety of maps identifying their features and finally located the 7 continents and 5 oceans of the world.

What is Geography?

Firstly the children wrote down all the things they already knew. Then we completed a scavenger hunt in school to explore our ideas further and took photos of what we saw on the ipads.

Great work class 6!
