Counting Collections

Class 1 have really impressed me in our counting collections session this week. They thought carefully about how they would count their collection and demonstrated their mathematical thinking when recording their findings. Moreover, they worked beautifully together, listening and supporting one another. A superb effort from everyone on a Friday!

Maths Question Hunt

We had maths with a difference today – the questions were hidden around the classroom! They were all linked to time, capacity, length and mass. We had to work together to find the questions and solve the problems.

We had to collaborate and think really carefully to succeed.

Football Logos

Class Five are looking to the teacher versus parent community football match! (Keep your eyes peeled for more details about it coming soon!) We have been busy designing and voting for logos for our teacher football kit!

Showing Kindness

Our number one rule in class 1 is to be kind…always. This week we have been thinking of ways that we can show kindness. In crew this morning it was great to see the children supporting one another to read words and giving one another praise for their efforts.

Also today, a little girl in class 1 decided she wanted to make something for her friend. She spent a long time in the creative area making two matching teddy bears. It put a big smile on her friends face when he received it! How kind to think of making someone else happy. You all make class 1 a beautiful place to be!

Fun in P.E…

One of our favourite times of the week is our P.E session with Mr Woods. The children loved taking part in some team work games. They demonstrated strength, balance and coordination. Great work Class 1!

The certificates this week were awarded to Rianna and Carter for great listening skills and following instructions. Super job!

Rockpool Explorers!

Last week the children had a wonderful opportunity to explore a real life rock pool. They were able to touch a starfish, hold three types of crab and stroke an anemone. We also learned some amazing facts, the children’s favourite being that the whole in the middle of the starfish is both its mouth and bottom!

How can we save our seas? ♻️

In our first expedition case study, children in the EYFS have been answering the question ‘How can we save our seas?’. To hook the children into this we completed a gallery walk looking at a range of images showing how plastic pollution is damaging our planet and endangering the creatures that live there.

I was amazed at how well the children reflected upon the images, articulated what they saw and how this made them feel. This was the start of a fantastic case study that prompted our children to become activists and make a stand against plastic pollution! Look at some of their amazing posters sharing the message to use our recycling bins to help save the seas!

Incredible Artists

We have been working really hard this week to learn as much as we can about Doncaster Mansion House. Not only have we been learning about why it is such a significant landmark in Doncaster but we have been creating beautiful artwork of it too. We began by looking at the building as artists and working out what shapes we could see, what the distinguishing features are and discussing what techniques we could use in our own artwork. We worked collaboratively too, to complete a jigsaw of the Mansion house. That forced us to look carefully at the building again and learn about the shapes and lines we are going to need to create our pieces. We all then began our first drafts – we ended the session with a gallery walk to begin to critique our work so far.
