World Ocean Day

Today the children in EYFS wore something blue to celebrate ‘World Ocean Day’. The children revisited previous learning from our summer expedition ‘What happens where the sea meets the shore?’ They spoke about plastic pollution and how we can make a difference. Moreover, they did so with such maturity.

Yet again the children in class 1 have been saving our seas beyond the classroom. These pictures were shared by parents who informed me that Willow and Aurora have been asking to pick up rubbish in their local area. Huge well done for lending a hand and making a difference! You’re amazing!

How to draw a pirate

The children in reception have enjoyed learning how to draw a pirate in the style of Simon Rickerty’s ‘Ten Little Pirates’. The children showed high levels of concentration and engagement. As a result they produced some high quality work that blew us away…

Doing the Ocean Jam…

The children have enjoyed learning about musical instruments this week. We learned a song called ‘Ocean Jam’ and the children carefully selected instruments to play for each section of the song. We sang, danced and played to the beat of the music! What a jam!

We are looking forward to performing our song to the nursery children in our community meeting tomorrow.

Counting Collections

Class 1 have really impressed me in our counting collections session this week. They thought carefully about how they would count their collection and demonstrated their mathematical thinking when recording their findings. Moreover, they worked beautifully together, listening and supporting one another. A superb effort from everyone on a Friday!

Showing Kindness

Our number one rule in class 1 is to be kind…always. This week we have been thinking of ways that we can show kindness. In crew this morning it was great to see the children supporting one another to read words and giving one another praise for their efforts.

Also today, a little girl in class 1 decided she wanted to make something for her friend. She spent a long time in the creative area making two matching teddy bears. It put a big smile on her friends face when he received it! How kind to think of making someone else happy. You all make class 1 a beautiful place to be!

Fun in P.E…

One of our favourite times of the week is our P.E session with Mr Woods. The children loved taking part in some team work games. They demonstrated strength, balance and coordination. Great work Class 1!

The certificates this week were awarded to Rianna and Carter for great listening skills and following instructions. Super job!

We can change the world!

I would like to make a shout out to a little girl in class 1 who visited the seaside at the weekend. We are currently learning all about plastic pollution and the harm that it can cause to our seas. Aurora found some rubbish at the seaside and told her mummy that it didn’t belong there. She put it in the bin and said she wants to save our planet. You are a real life super hero Aurora, thank you for being so kind and for making our world a better place.

This week in class 1 the children have been very creative. They have made posters to tell everyone how important it is to save our seas and recycle…

Rockpool Magic

Over the past couple of weeks the children have been acquiring the knowledge to answer our case study one question ‘How can we save our oceans?’ With our lack of access to coastal wildlife, we decided to bring marine life to Norton Infant School! The children thoroughly enjoyed this unique experience and got up close and personal with ocean life. You only have to look at their faces to see how captivated they were…

The children enjoyed learning interesting and funny facts about the sea creatures. They also impressed our expert visitors with their knowledge of plastic pollution and they showed real care and concern for marine life.

Following our visit, the children have been writing with real enthusiasm and stamina. They have created some beautiful work and have blown me away with their skills!

How can we help save the ocean?

This week class one have been reading ‘Harry Saves the Ocean!’ It taught us all about plastic pollution and how Harry and his friends work together to help clean the ocean.

In crew, we looked at pictures from the story and identified all the items that didn’t belong in the sea.

We have been sorting plastic into useful plastic and single use plastic…

We went on a gallery walk around the classroom and looked at images from the sea. The children had to decide if the images made them feel happy or sad.

Well done for working so hard class 1! The children have shown a real care and concern about the plastic pollution problem, which has been really heart warming. We understand that working together is key to making a change. As it says in our core text (Harry Saves The Ocean!)… ‘It’s a big job for one but if we all lend a hand, We’ll soon make a difference to the sea and the sand’.
