On the 27th of June Nursery celebrated and shared their learning of our summer expedition “What happens where the sea meets the shore?” The children have been investigating what happens to the sea creature when plastics pollute our oceans and how we can help to solve this problem. They have also explored fantasy tales of the sea, examining mythical characters such as mermaid and pirates. The children sang a mermaid song which they had been learning to their parents. Nursery also shared a retelling of one of the texts we explored as part of our learning “Mermaid and Pirate”. They recalled this story through actions and performed it in front of Reception children as part of one of the phases community crews.
We also shared our final product with parents which was a media reel with a voice over provided by the children explaining and answering our guiding question and demonstrating the children’s understanding and learning experiences throughout the expedition. During which we created a large piece of land art as a whole phase. The children recycled materials to make sea creatures and the setting under the sea, to form the piece of art. We then used a drone to capture the image and made the art into a bin sticker. These were gifted to all children and were to be placed on each family’s recycling bin to remind the families and community on the importance of recycling to save our seas.
Children then shared their learning journals with their families and were encouraged to take part in sea themed activities which we had taken part in during the whole of the expedition. These activities included hook a duck, ice cream making, sea themed role play, puppet shows and exploration, real ice lollies for tasting and guess where the treasure is hiding?
